Tim Maczka, Founder and CEO

Tim is one of the original founders of Team Financial Group, Inc. He has over 40 years of financial services experience with the former Old Kent Financial Corporation and Team Financial. At Team Financial, he is involved in all aspects of the company with a focus toward funding, portfolio risk management, underwriting and collections. Tim holds a B.S. Degree in Finance from Central Michigan University. Tim enjoys almost all sports, as both a spectator and participant. He and his wife, Nan, also enjoy visiting their three grown children and seven grandchildren.

Matt Maczka, President

Matt joined Team Financial Group at the beginning of 2012 after 9 years at Bowen Engineering Inc. where he held several different positions throughout the organization. Matt holds a B.S. Degree in Construction Engineering & Management from Purdue University, an MBA from Butler University and maintains a professional Civil Engineering license in the state of Indiana. At Team Financial Group he leads the operations of the business, with an emphasis in risk management, underwriting and process management. Matt also spends much of his time in the sales arena, developing relationships with key vendor partners and larger clients. Like many others at Team, Matt enjoys most sports as a spectator and participant but especially likes to spend time outdoors fishing, camping, golfing, skiing, boating and anything else he can get his boys to join him in. He and his wife, Meredith, have four young boys that keep them extremely busy.

Joe Smaby, Founder and Vice President of Sales

Joe has nearly 30 years of sales and management experience in the financial services industry. Prior to founding Team Financial Group, Inc., he spent 14 years with the former Old Kent Financial Corporation. During his career at Old Kent, Joe served in regional sales and management positions within the retail environment. At Team Financial, he oversees all sales and marketing efforts with a focus on Midwest based vendor relationships. Joe holds a B.S. Degree in Finance from Central Michigan University. Joe and his wife, Laurie, have been blessed with three children. He enjoys traveling, golfing, basketball, tennis, boating and watching his kids compete in various sports. Joe also likes to spend time mentoring and coaching young kids, as well as helping with Special Olympics.


Corey Sandner, Director of Sales

Corey is a West Michigan native bringing 17 years of professional sales experience. He believes creating long term business relationships is obtained by incorporating a high level of integrity with industry best practices. He is passionate about helping organizations maximize business profitability utilizing our capital resources. Before joining Team Financial Group, he spent over 9 years specializing in leasing commercial technology equipment and services. Corey graduated with honors from Ferris State University with a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration. His focus at Team Financial Group includes business development, sales processes, customer relations, and working to continuously improve our client experience. He and his wife, Elaine, are blessed with three children where they spend most of their downtime together. When not with his family, Corey enjoys outdoor activities with a favorite being skeet and trap at one of the local sporting clubs.

Mike Schmidt, Credit Administrator

Mike joined Team Financial Group in 2007 after 27 years in the consumer finance business, with the most recent 21 years with Old Kent/Fifth Third Bank. During his tenure with Fifth Third, Mike was the Credit Manager for Dealer Services and the Grand Rapids Consumer Collection center. At Team Financial Mike is involved in credit administration, collections, and other areas as needed. Mike received his B.A. from Olivet College. Mike and his wife, Diane, stay busy keeping up with the activities of their eight children.

Tanya Schulz, Accounting Manager

Prior to joining Team Financial Group in 2002, Tanya gained financial services experience while working three years for Old Kent Financial Corporation. Her responsibilities at Team Financial include; accounting, documentation, HR, customer relations, and generally, making sure all the guys are behaving. Tanya received her Bachelors Degree of Business in Accounting from Davenport University. Tanya’s attention to detail and efficiency has been critical to the success of Team Financial. Tanya and her husband, Adam, have two children, who keep them very busy.

Kara Wildern, Operations Manager

Kara came to Team Financial Group in 2007 after working several years in Accounts Payable at Padnos Iron and Metal Company. She has a Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting from Hope College. Kara’s roles at Team Financial Group include; accounts payable, accounts receivables, invoicing and customer service. Outside of Team Financial Kara enjoys spending time with her husband Chad and their two children.


Carol Berry, Collection Specialist

Prior to joining Team Financial Group in 2006, Carol gained collection experience from being the District Manager at Grand Video for 5 years and also working 8 years at a local insurance broker. Her responsibilities at Team Financial include; customer service, collections, and being able to pinch a nickel from a penny. Carol received her Associates Degree in Business from Grand Rapids Community College. Carol and her husband, Scott, have three beautiful girls.

Michelle Gephart, Inside Sales Representative

Michelle epitomizes integrity, energy, and hard work in every detail of her career and personal life. She has experience in providing first-rate Customer Care over several decades of service in Retail, Office Equipment, Hospitality/Textile Industry, and Equipment Financing. Michelle grew up in Livonia Michigan and moved to the Grand Rapids area when given the opportunity to continue her career and education. Michelle completed her B.S. Degree in Business Administration at Cornerstone University. During her time-off Michelle enjoys spending time with her family and friends, traveling, camping, hiking with her dog Marne and practicing Flow and HIIT classes at the local gym.


Christian Skuras, Regional Sales Manager

Christian started his career at 15 years old working in his uncle’s construction business and at a family-run restaurant, Ristorante Piccirrilli in Shelby Township. Prior to Team Financial, he had over 10 years of sales experience at Auburn Pharmaceutical in Troy. He attributes his success to his faith, hard work, and a daily dedication to delivering exceptional customer service. He obtained his Bachelor’s degree at Walsh College in Business Management and has received extensive customer service and sales training over the years, with credit and accounting training at Team Financial Group. When Christian is not spending time with his family, he loves to be on the golf course or outdoors hunting and fishing.

Theresa Skuras, S.E. Michigan Sales Representative

Theresa had over 7 years in retail banking at Clarkston State Bank, including 3 years as Manager of the Main Branch, before starting with Team Financial. Her role at Team includes sales, marketing and business development in South East Michigan.
Theresa loves going above and beyond for her customers, which earned her the Corp!Magazine Customer Service Hero Award in 2008 while at CSB. Theresa has her Bachelor’s degree in Business with a Major in Finance from Walsh College; she enjoys traveling and spending time with her husband, Christian and their son, Nicholas, and playing with their chocolate lab Max. She also helps with Clarkston SCAMP Fundraisers every Spring.
